Is this open core?
No. The existing Vikunja stays exactly as it is. Nothing is being taken away or locked behind a paywall. Pro adds new features (like audit logs, an admin panel, and time tracking) on top. All of it is AGPLv3.
What if I stop paying?
Vikunja itself keeps working. Your tasks, projects, and data aren't going anywhere. The Pro features (audit logs, admin panel, time tracking) need an active subscription. The core app you use every day does not.
What's the difference between Family, Business, and Enterprise?
They all include the same Pro features. Family is a flat fee for up to 5 users, for households sharing a Vikunja instance. Business is per-user pricing for companies. Enterprise is for organizations that need invoicing, a dedicated instance, a GDPR data processing agreement, or hands-on support.
Can I self-host with a Pro plan?
Yes. All Pro plans work with self-hosted Vikunja. Sign up, get your license key, add it to your instance. That's it.
I'm already self-hosting Vikunja for free. What changes?
Nothing has to change. The free self-hosted version isn't going anywhere. Pro adds features on top of what's already there. It doesn't take anything away.
If it's AGPLv3, why do I need a license key?
All Pro feature code lives in the same repo under the same AGPLv3 license. Nothing is hidden or proprietary. The license key activates the features so they work out of the box. You're paying for a working product and for continued development of the project.
Does this mean every new feature will be Pro from now on?
No. Pro features are things that companies genuinely need and are happy to pay for because it helps them run their business: time tracking, audit logs, admin tooling. Regular task management features keep landing in the free version like they always have.
Is this a sell-out?
No. This is how the project stays sustainable without VC money, ads, or selling your data. Every subscription funds continued development of the same open-source project everyone uses.
How is this different from Vikunja Cloud?
Vikunja Cloud is managed hosting for individuals and small teams. Pro is a feature upgrade for self-hosted and dedicated instances. Cloud integration for Pro features is planned but not available at launch.
What does "private beta" mean?
It means we're ironing out the last bugs before general availability. You can use it in production, but expect some rough edges. Pricing and features may still change before GA.
Can I try before I buy?
Yes. Every Pro plan comes with a free 30-day trial.
I'm on Vikunja Cloud. Can I get Pro features?
Not yet. Pro is currently available for self-hosted and dedicated instances. Cloud integration is coming, but it's not ready at launch.
What about SSO and LDAP?
Already included in the free version of Vikunja. You don't need Pro for that. See the setup docs for OpenID Connect and LDAP.
