Labels
Labels are tags you can attach to tasks for categorization. They work across projects and can be used in filters.
Labels are tags you can attach to tasks for extra categorization or metadata. They work across all your projects, so the same label can be used on tasks in different projects.
Label overview#
You can access all your labels from the Labels entry in the left sidebar menu. This overview page shows every label you have created, along with its color and description.
From the overview, you can:
- Create new labels
- Edit existing labels (change title, color, or description)
- Delete labels you no longer need
- Browse by label by clicking on a label to see all tasks that have it assigned, regardless of which project those tasks belong to
Creating labels#
There are two ways to create a label:
- From the label overview page: Click the button to create a new label and fill in its properties.
- Inline on a task: When adding a label to a task, you can type a new label name and Vikunja will create it for you if it does not already exist.
Label properties#
Each label has the following properties:
| Property | Description |
|---|---|
| Title | The name of the label |
| Color | A color to visually distinguish the label |
| Description | An optional description for additional context |
Using labels with Quick Add Magic#
You can add labels while creating a task using Quick Add Magic syntax by prefixing the label name with * (e.g. Pack kitchen supplies *logistics).
Using labels in filters#
Labels can be used in Filters to create saved filtered views of your tasks. This lets you quickly see all tasks matching a specific label or combination of labels across your projects.
